January to April 2025: Minhee Kim, *1987, London und Seoul
"For the upcoming residency program, I am excited to embark on a three-month artistic journey in Lenzburg, Switzerland. As a multi-disciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, textiles, and installations, my practice is deeply rooted in societal phenomena, exploring issues and individuals within society. This residency offers a unique opportunity to delve into the theme "InterGenerations," reflecting my ongoing commitment to understanding and bridging generational and societal divides.
During my time in Lenzburg, I intend to immerse myself in this remote environment from my daily routine, embracing the tranquility it offers to focus on my artistic practice without distractions. Engaging with new surroundings and people will be invaluable, providing fresh perspectives and inspiration. A significant aspect of this residency will involve organizing workshops and cooking sessions, fostering connections with residents through shared culinary experiences.
Drawing from my Korean heritage, I plan to host Kimbap-making sessions. Kimbap, a beloved Korean dish, symbolizes community and harmony, much like the societal unity I strive to portray in my art. By introducing locals to Kimbap and exploring new ingredients together, we will create opportunities for cross-cultural understanding and meaningful conversations.
These interactions and shared experiences will not only enhance my artistic vision but also serve as a cultural bridge, fostering healthy relationships and promoting a healthy lifestyle through food. Documenting these moments will further enrich my artwork, highlighting the power of art to transcend borders, race, and generational divides. I am confident that this residency will lead to new artistic challenges and achievements, driven by the inspiration drawn from the vibrant community of Lenzburg and the serene environment that surrounds it."
